a few thoughts on the recent election. Numbers, for those who care

A quick count shows that Democrats got approximately 19.3 million votes in the combined senate elections (not counting double for states that had two senators up, and not counting Alabama, where the Democratic party apparently didn't even bother to run a candidate)

By the same standard Republicans got 21.3 million votes.

That would be 47/53. Assuming you accept the counts as legitimate, that's a win, but not exactly overwhelming. If we were a democratic country, it would not seem to justify turning that into 20/11. Even within the republic format, it seems a bit off.
