What do you think Obama will do when presented with a Bill to open ANWR for drilling?

That is one of the first ripe plums the GOP will go for..Alaska Senator Murkowski will become Energy Chair and that has always been high on her agenda. Drill Baby Drill

The reality is, eventually we will be drilling there, when the world begins to run out of oil people will not care about the wildlife or nature. But I have a feeling it won't be till that time till they begin to drill.

I don't.

Oh and by the way Hillary Clinton opposes too and voted that way when in the Senate.

He has no incentive to pander to the Republicans, he has no incentive to pander to Big-Oil-donors.
-> He has no repercussions to fear.

On the other hand, he HAS incentive to bind the liberals closer to the Democrats. If he doesn't, there's the risk they simply stay at home if the Democrats nominate a full-blown establishment Democrat.

He has no republican sympathies to lose and all liberal sympathies to secure.

Oil prices have been dropping so rapidly that drilling has been going down. I don't think the politics today are the same as when ANWR first became an issue.

and there may well be no oil there. I don't think a big political battle over an unknown is worthwhile.

The right can say its the next Saudi Arabia, and that keeping it untouched is keeping us poor and dependant. The environmental groups can say it will turn an untouched wilderness into the next industrial wasteland. Without knowing there's oil, both arguments are ridiculously premature. Political capital is hard to come by, and better spent where we know it will make a difference.

I'd guess he'll do the same thing he did when Alaska sued the Obama administration in 2013 for rejecting its plan to explore for oil and natural gas in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
