LINCOLN — Volunteers have reunited a yellow Labrador retriever with his family after the dog ran away from the scene of a car crash.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said the 5-year-old Labrador named Jack was with the family heading for duck hunting Saturday when a pickup crossed the center line near Bennet and collided head-on with their SUV.

Three family members and Jack were thrown from the vehicle. Family friend Tom Keller said the dog stayed with the family but then was scared off by police sirens. Two family members remained hospitalized on Monday, and one has been released.

Keller announced that the dog was missing over the weekend, and volunteers found him Monday. He said Jack made a female friend on his adventure and will likely soon become a father.

"will likely soon become a father". Guess he found some comfort when he was scared away.

Good for the volunteers who cared enough to search for a lost furbaby. I hope all his humans recover.
