After Muslims seek equity, Christmas stricken from school calendar

Christmas and Easter have been stricken from next year’s school calendar in Montgomery County. So have Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah.

Montgomery’s Board of Education voted 7 to 1 Tuesday to eliminate references to all religious holidays on the published calendar for 2015-2016, a decision that followed a request from Muslim community leaders to give equal billing to the Muslim holy day of Eid al-Adha.

I sincerely do not like how they wrote the title.
All this really does is that they took out the religious names and just consider days off as a Holiday.

This effectively just means every single day off is now called a Holiday without any title.

I actually like this, and am pretty happy about this being in Montgomery County.

Can you imagine the screaming if a Muslin holiday were to show up on a calendar?

And by the way, you do know that they didn't add a day off for the Muslim holiday, right?

'Muslim community leaders have been asking Montgomery school officials for years to close schools for at least one of the two major Muslim holidays. . .

But Tuesday’s outcome was not at all what Muslim leaders intended. They called the decision a surprise — and a glaring mistake.

“By stripping the names Christmas, Easter, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, they have alienated other communities now, and we are no closer to equality,” said Saqib Ali, a former Maryland state delegate and co-chair of the Equality for Eid Coalition. “It’s a pretty drastic step, and they did it without any public notification.”

Zainab Chaudry, also a co-chair of the coalition, expressed dismay, too, contending the school board’s members were willing to “go so far as to paint themselves as the Grinch who stole Christmas” to avoid granting equal treatment for the Muslim holiday.

“They would remove the Christian holidays and they would remove the Jewish holidays from the calendar before they would consider adding the Muslim holiday to the calendar,” she said.'

muslims attend at that school.

Christmas is a federal holiday

Should the schools also close for the Wiccan holiday?

How about Asian new year?

or closing school because a # of students would be absent, as in my high school, for Jewish holidays, is NOT trying to impose their beliefs on others.

That imposing your belief

If the school had a large % of Muslims like prisons do then it should accommodate them but it doesn't as the article said.
It's a few Muslims wanting something, just like the case of the check out person in the grocery store who said he wouldn't
touch anything pork if a customer came through his check out line.

It’s a first for Wegmans in this area. They’ve put up a sign asking customers buying pork or alcohol not to use a particular checkout line when a Muslim teenager is on duty as the cashier. The sign went up a week ago at their Lyell Avenue store

Another one here

You can find example all night

In many prisons in the US they force the kitchen staff to serve dinner at night during Ramadan
for the month due to a % of Muslims doing time

It sucks for the guards who have to have them out at night after lock down , it sucks for the kitchen staff
who have to work a 3rd shift when the kitchen is suppose to be closed.

This is for a month straight , it's all bullshit

It all comes back to pushing your beliefs and it's all bullshit

I don't see any other religions doing this in the U.S just Muslims

Muslim Objections

Because Islam considers dogs in general to be unclean,[6] many Muslim taxi drivers and store owners have refused to accommodate customers who have guide dogs.[7][8][9] In 2003, the Sharia Council, based in the United Kingdom, ruled that the ban on dogs does not apply to those used for guide work.[10]

However, many Muslims continue to refuse access, and see the pressure to allow the dogs as a restraint upon religious liberty.[11] Sheikh Ibrahim Mogra of the Muslim Council of Britain has argued strongly that Sharia does not preclude working with guide dogs, and it is actually a duty under Sharia for a Muslim to help the blind

for no apparent reason. I have a feeling that in conversation, in school, in fact everywhere except on the actual printed calendar, these days will still be referred to as Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
