If you can't find your way in a corn maze, you pick a direction and

start walking until you come to the edge of the field then look for a road or house. I'm watching ABC News where one of their panicky stories is about how people become disoriented in this huge cornfield maze and are calling 911 to rescue them. I swear people in this nation are devoid of common sense. Thank goodness they have their cell phones though or that farmer would be finding bodies in his field come next spring.

run out of all the options and eventually find your way out.

but won't necessarily get you to the 'goal', depending on how they've constructed it.

Consider a very simple maze, with the paths shaped like the '8' on a calculator, with the goal being in the centre of the centre bar. If the start is at the bottom left, put you hand on the wall to the right and you'll make a circuit of the maze and get back to the start, but miss the goal. If you start at the goal, facing left and keeping your hand on the wall to the right, you'll go round and round the upper loop, but never get to the entrance/exit.

There aren't actual walls; the walls are made of corn plants. That's why it's so foolish for people to call 911 from a corn maze. They should arrest people for calling 911 over something so stupid.

If the tactic works in a solid maze, then it'll work in a similar corn maze. Or you can trample the corn and get the farmer annoyed at you for ruining his maze.

I would choose to piss off the farmer. 911 is for dire emergencies that require immediate attention, not something that you can get yourself out of if you'll just cheat a little bit. These people aren't hanging on the edge of cliff or anything.

It's just corn. They can cut through the corn rows if it's so damn hard to find the right path.

Then even the pathetically lost and rule-bound tourists would have a way out without calling 911.
