I'm watching ABC News where one of their panicky stories is about how people become disoriented in this huge cornfield maze and are calling 911 to rescue them. I swear people in this nation are devoid of common sense. Thank goodness they have their cell phones though or that farmer would be finding bodies in his field come next spring.

but won't necessarily get you to the 'goal', depending on how they've constructed it.

Consider a very simple maze, with the paths shaped like the '8' on a calculator, with the goal being in the centre of the centre bar. If the start is at the bottom left, put you hand on the wall to the right and you'll make a circuit of the maze and get back to the start, but miss the goal. If you start at the goal, facing left and keeping your hand on the wall to the right, you'll go round and round the upper loop, but never get to the entrance/exit.
