(34,648 posts)Maybe I need a 12. But they fit bad and loose. Must be a size ten for models.

(23,156 posts)Even if you happen to be the tall, most of us are not, no matter what size we wear.
Basically all models are taller, not to mention a lot thinner, than the typical person. A true plus size model would be no taller than 5'6" and take at least a size fourteen, and preferably should be wearing a 1x, 2x, or 3x, which are the actual plus sizes out there.

(10,621 posts)That's the height I always wished I had been. Not really tall, but not short either.

(21,020 posts)with you.
I was always sort of tall...5'9" at the very least.
Problem was it was all in my legs. Very long inseam. I could wear pants with a 33" inseam. Now with age I've shrunk a little...30" suffices at this point.
Anyway, I always wanted to be short. I totally get it when people say they felt like xxx in a yyy body.
Yep. I was a short person trapped in a tall body. One reason being that when you're a tall kid, people expect you (or they expected ME) to act older than your age.
dawg
(10,621 posts)and then get them hemmed.
I have a pretty long body, but my legs are short and I wear my pants slung pretty low.
But 5'9" is a pretty cool height for a woman. I have a friend who is that height and I don't really think of her as being unusually tall.
pipi_k
(21,020 posts)an adult, my height wasn't that unusual.
But growing up, I was always the tallest kid in my classes.
I'm imaging how your body type looks, and thinking of a guy I lived with for a while. He was a few inches shorter than I was, but had a longer upper body and short legs. I'm long on bottom and short on top. One day I measured each of us, head to waist, then waist to feet, then swapped our waist to feet numbers. With his long upper body and my legs, he was like 7 feet tall. With my short torso and his short legs, I was like 4 feet tall.
OK so I am easily amused.
dawg
(10,621 posts)If my legs were long enough to by 30 length pants off the rack, I'd be 5'11", which is the size I would have liked to have been. Oh well. At least I don't trip and fall very often. I have that "stability" thing going for me.

removing link--did not realize it was downloading to people's computers. have not had that sort of problem before. my apologies to those who experienced this.

(146,254 posts)Try deleting everything after the first jpg in that link. It's wrong to link in a way that actually downloads the file.
ETA: That didn't work. It still downloaded the file. I don't know why, but most people will not want the file downloaded. It probably would be best to remove that link.
Nye Bevan
(25,406 posts)I'm guessing you have a browser setting set to download instead of open this file type. Not that it really matters, because when you open a picture in the browser it's still being downloaded by the browser.

dawg
(10,621 posts)when I thought she was the image of female perfection.
Of course, I would have felt that way about her regardless of what size she happened to be. I was very much in love. She was very attractive at smaller sizes than that and also very attractive at larger sizes than that. But, looking back realistically, that was the size where she looked her absolute best.

(3,891 posts)Good news, moving in the right direction. At least she's not size zero. Give it another generation, and the models will look like the people on the street. With a little luck.

(2,273 posts)There are a lot of women who look exactly like her and I would consider them to be of average weight. When you take a woman like that and label her plus sized you are only encouraging eating disorders in women.
treestar
(82,383 posts)Maybe. From their view, I can see it.
But for normal people, no way. Plus size means fat to us and doesn't apply to people who weigh more than models would.
The fashion industry may have forgotten models are not normal.

(2,273 posts)I am that old school type who admires a woman with curves. Although I appreciate Calvin Klein making an effort but labeling a size 10 as plus size is not helping young women who are already struggling to fit into what society considers norm. There is no shortage of size 20 women who are absolutely gorgeous and I would prefer to see in Calvin Klein ads.

(8,311 posts)... I wonder what you'd think of most women out there.
She looks healthy. Something most models don't. I'm willing to bet her BMI is below 25, but certainly isn't an 18 or 16 BMI. (Considering I've been an 18.3 BMI before, and looked skeletal, the healthy range is where most women look their best.)

(8,311 posts)That's at 5'1 and 118.
At 97 lbs I was a BMI of 18.3. I looked sick, my hair was thinning, my bones showed, and size 2 jeans at Target were too big for me. I could wear juniors size 1, but they gaped at the waist to fit my hips (juniors sizes are not designed to accommodate curves).
At least you aren't aiming into eating disorder territory on your "ideal" (15 lbs less would put you at a 20 BMI), but remember that you're still well within a healthy weight.

(23,340 posts)I had a retail job where I used to dress them for display. I would have to pin up all the excess fabric from size 16 clothes on the back side of the mannequin to make it somewhat fit on the front side.
Next time you are in department store, check out the back of the mannequin. Pins and clips.

(53,521 posts)Hell, tall women can be a size 16 and still be of a healthy weight.
