(6,068 posts)one Rupert Murdoch, Esq. Rupert owns pretty much all the papers here.
Obama is certainly not the PM's best mate, in fact Obama has been pretty chilly towards the Australian Liberal Party ever since their last leader claimed that Osama bin Laden would be cheering for Obama in the primaries and elections. At the G20, Obama announced a climate pact with China that he pointedly declined to advise Abbott of beforehand.
But Rupert is definitely the PM's best mate. the previous labor government was in the midst of constructing a national telecoms network that would have broken Rupert's monopoly on cable tv distribution in Australia. The current conservative govt has largely gutted that plan, and ever since news corp's papers have been gushing in their praise of the government, whatever the context. Most non-news corp papers were describing relations between Abbott and Obama as being cordial at best, which is a problem for Abbott in that most Australians actually value the alliance with America. Thank the Lordy we have news corp to set things straight.

(150 posts)Love this photo of President Obama!
President Obama is VERY popular overseas including Canada.
According to a poll that was taken by world leaders, Pres. Obama was named one of the top three -- President Obama; the Dalai Lama and the Pope.
