KANSAS CITY, Mo. —Kansas City's City Union Mission said that while it won't turn anyone away from its homeless shelters, it won't allow any same-sex married couples to stay there together.

"We have to stick with biblical principles or we would just deny who we truly are," said Executive Director Dan Doty.

He said he's been with the mission for 30 years and the entire staff loves the people that they serve. The shelter helps people deal with mental illness, drug addiction and many other problems from a conservative Christian stance.

Doty said that does not include recognizing same-sex couples, though the situation has yet to arise.
