With vaping on the rise, debate about the possible health risks to users and bystanders rose to a fevered pitch, and reports that defective or incorrectly charged e-cigarettes might explode only fanned the flames. Vaping, however, seems to be here to stay, despite the backlash.
Vape wasnt the only substance-based word on the shortlist. Budtender, a word for a server in a cannabis dispensary or shop, was also under consideration. The Oxford Dictionaries also shortlisted terms such as bae, normcore, and indyref, which refers to the Scottish independence referendum, before settling on vape.
Vapers, unite!

(21,925 posts)I think that if I have the good fortune to live another 20 years, I just might not understand the English language anymore. Everyone might sound to me like that Soldier Of The Future in the old Outer Limits episode written by Harlan Ellison where the soldier was speaking English but no one could understand it.

(24,761 posts)Despite the hysteria of anti-vaping/tobacco control organizations, who seem to think vaping is tantamount to smoking, vaping is here to stay. E-cigs and mods have helped me remain tobacco-free for one whole year (and counting).
meow2u3 to nicotine prohibitionists: get a clue! If you ban vaping (or regulate it to the point that it amounts to a ban), you might as well tell us to die.
