The state with a Dem governor, 2 Dem senators, and both houses of the state legislature run by Dems is a Red state? We'll, I guess Romney did win it in 2012.

this was a red state run by all Dems.

If the OP is looking to make the point that red states have dumber people, you could say the most recent election supports that, if the OP is looking to make the point that red states educate their population poorly, than it's not a very good example since the people running the show in WV have been largely Dems for quite some time.

then the list is deeply flawed. Public education is largely a joke and our legislature is working VERY hard to keep that reputation going!

17. NV spends less than any other state

At least in Las Vegas. The average spending for the state is much higher because the northern counties get much, much more per pupil.

And even though they have 1/4 of the resources per pupil, the Las Vegas area school district (CCSD) regularly out performs comparable school districts like New York, Houston, Miami, and Los Angeles.

The funding problems, much like California's, were largely caused by ballot measures a couple of decades ago.

No income tax and low sales tax leaves property taxes, which are also limited by a right wing ballot initiative. The problem with that? Nevada is 80% federal land, so no property tax. Wyoming has half the people and double the income, for instance.

Casinos and construction companies don't need a lot of college degree holders, either. I've had several students in night school who were strippers and we all knew that they made more money than anyone else in the building.

Many places do not need a college degree to have economic success, but by all means please be an educational snob.

(I have a Masters Degree, but I know high school dropouts that make more than I do.)

It's called "brain drain" and it hurts economically disadvantaged areas all over the world. As a liberal, I think it would be wonderful if people both within these states (my state is one) and the federal government worked to make sure brain drain is less of an issue.

This party used to be about helping the poor, but now we just make fun of them. No wonder the vast majority of poor people never vote and the Republicans win by grabbing 52% of the rich and (what's left of) the middle class..
