Edward Snowden Receives Stuttgart Peace Prize 2014

Edward Snowden has been awarded Stuttgart Peace Prize 2014, but could not attend the ceremony and sent a message via a video, urging to fight for the observation of human rights.

BERLIN, November 23 (Sputnik) — US whistleblower Edward Snowden has been awarded Stuttgart Peace Prize 2014, established by citizens’ initiative Die AnStifter, the group said Sunday on its website.

Snowden could not attend the ceremony, but sent a message via a video, urging to fight for the observation of human rights.

"If we are to live in a liberal society, we must stand and defend liberal values," Snowden said.

The whistleblower added that it was important to defend human rights and demand that even the most senior officials observe them, as government and democracy should be founded on people's trust.

Huh?

Did you even study logic in high school? If you want to not have privacy being a right that we champion as Democrats just because libertarians also say it is important, then I would argue that you have a problem understanding Democratic values, and values in general for that matter.

I never said that because privacy is a liberal value and Snowden is a libertarian then he can't have this value.

Well, then are you in the same breath saying that all Democrats are Republicans, because many corporate Democrats seem to have the SAME VALUES of appeasing big corporate money to win elections? If not, then please explain your selective judgement here.

Well, let me help you, if your logic took you down an unknown road on understanding what you think I may have meant.

I said where was Snowden's warrant to pry into my personal business, I am entitled to my privacy and have never signed on to a hacker getting my personal information.

English Information about Stuttgart Peace Price and Die AnStifter

The Stuttgart Peace Prize is awarded annually by the non governmental organization “Die AnStifter” (the Instigators) to individuals or projects that have made a special contribution to peace, justice and a caring world and is endowed with 5,000 euros. This year will mark the twelfth award ceremony.

The winner is elected democratically. Those who have made donations to Die AnStifter are eligible to vote. Voting is held in spring and the awards ceremony is usually in November.

For the Stuttgart Peace Prize in 2013, Die AnStifter organized a bus trip for the two laureates who survived a Nazi massacre in northern Italy, other fellow sufferers and 30 relatives. The delegation was greeted by the state government of Baden-Württemberg.

List of laureates:

2013: Enio Mancini and Enrico Pieri, survivors of the Sant’Anna di Stazzema massacre in Tuscany, Italy, who fight for justice and international understanding.
2012: „Aktion Aufschrei – Stoppt den Waffenhandel!“ („Action Outcry – Stop the Arms Trade!“, Germany)
2011: Fatuma Abulkadir Adan (Kenya) who combines soccer and emancipation („We aim to score not to kill.“)
2010: Werner Baumgarten (Germany), pastor for asylum seekers and refugees
2009: Susan Bardosz and Arpad Pusztai (Hungary), scientists and critics of genetic engineering
2008: POEMA (Germany/Brazil), program against poverty and for protection of the environment in the Amazon Rainforest
2007: Agustín Aguayo (USA), combat medic whose application for conscientious objector status was denied forcing him to desert
2006: Wolfram Hülsemann (Germany), Leiter des Brandenburgischen Institutes für Gemeinwesenberatung, Demokratie und Integration (director of the NGO Brandenburg Institute for Community Guidance, Democracy and Integration)
2005: Giuliana Sgrena, Italian journalist who was kidnapped in Iraq
2004: Lama Tarayra, Palestinian pupil, for her work in reconciling Israeli and Palestinian youth
2003: Komitee für Grundrechte und Demokratie (Committee for Basic Liberties and Democracy, Germany)

Either way, good to see no award is too small for Snowden not to put in a personal appearance...Since he's already a millionaire, I do hope he had the common decency to decline the 5,000 Euro prize, since this award is unsponsored and the prize money comes strictly from individual donations...And is it asking too much for just one of his speeches to not be the same recycled boilerplate he's been delivering for all this time?

I do have one question...The actual award -- Does Snowden send somebody to pick it up? Do they mail it to him? Or do they mail it to Greenwald??
