Obama needs to ruffle their feathers more often with how they react.

(564 posts)But why is waiting until now, after the elections are over, to do all this stuff?

(898 posts)With the predictable outcome in the States. He was never going to win anyone over by not doing this before the election, but did manage to de-motivate millions in his base. If he had moved on immigration like he said was going to, he would have given a badly needly rallying cry. Why can't Obama ever strike when the iron is hot? There is something so reluctant in his nature, it's maddening.
It was the same thing during his first term when people were ruined and furious about the banks. He was elected in big part to take them on - - instead we get Rahm, Summers and Geitner. He had an historic chance on healthcare, and he turns to keys over to - - - Max Baucus!!!! Thank god, we have Obamacare, but so many of the problems getting it out were self-inflicted.

(34,857 posts)I'm sure they weighed both options - go for it before the midterms and wait until after the midterms. Would the Hispanics be revved up enough to negate the potential backlash from white voters? In the end, I don't think it would've made one difference, sadly.

(15,366 posts)going to happen. Those who voted in this election were predominantly white, older and racist. How could the outcome have been much worse than it was?
Not doing this before the midterms did absolutely nothing to inspire the base. And having Dem candidates run away from everything that Obama has accomplished in spite of unprecedented obstruction and nastiness did nothing to inspire confidence in them or how they would support the President's policies if they won/were returned to office.
Let it be clear. I voted and I voted Dem. I always do because I know what the consequences of not voting are. But there are too many Dems who still don't vote - even after everything that has happened especially since 2000 (I literally wonder where their minds are) - or who couldn't because of effective GOP voter suppression.
IMO, one simple thing that Dems could and should do - if they are not already doing so - is to ensure that every potential Dem voter is registered and that every registered Dem voter has whatever form of ID is required for them to vote even if it means going door to door with a camera, forms, stamps and money. While laws intended specifically to disenfranchise (as these indeed are) still need to be struck down, we can still do a lot in the meantime to lessen their impact.

(7,759 posts)more of this than Obama. It's a big fail and takes some of the luster off their devious hero Presidents.
