(6,332 posts)...so it's a lot harder for the folks with cell phone cameras to record what's really going on there.
I just hope it can be a calm night.

(40,416 posts)One wonders if the KKK will show up in robes. One can only hope.
This should have been timed in the morning. The community is a bit on edge. Now I fear that they are going to just throw a match on the tinder pile.
Bad idea.
Hoping for peace.

(13,390 posts)I have no clue what the decision is goig to be. I do know that this may be helpful to other venues who are creating sanctuary space and it is allowing people to gather and pray, etc.

(40,416 posts)Although as an atheist, I don't know what good praying will do, except for it sometimes being a peaceful enterprise. These days, I am not too sure, but I am willing to give those who pray the benefit of the doubt, at least until they begin inflicting their prayers on others.
Sorry. I don't mean to sidetrack the thread.

(13,390 posts)Clergy and churches are heavily involved in this. They are providing supplies and shelter. And, of course spirituality\religion are very important to the black community. REV. Martin Luther King was able to speak a language of peace more effectively than other less affiliated activists.

(40,167 posts)What happens next?
At what point ( on the possible charges scale ) do demonstrations take place?
I find this whole thing hard to follow, other than if the cop isn't indicted for something.

(13,390 posts)so that no one gets hurt. For that reason all the responses in MO are being handled locally. People are meeting in various places the following day, directly after, etc to decide what kind on actions. There will also be direct action training.
This is the plan regardless of the decision.

(40,167 posts)is indicted on the maximum charge, what's to protest?
Do protests start if lesser charges are filed?
The whole thing puzzles me.

(13,390 posts)at least temporarily if the DW supporters are angry? That is why the plans are to be determined. There has not been much talk about what happens in the case of an indictment, but the fact that there is also raises awareness.
Not only that, people are thinking long term. It took 108 days to find out if a man who shot an unarmed teenager will face charges. An indictment does not heal the wounds that this has brought. And don't forget this was not an unusual occurrence. It keeps happening, mostly recently in Cleveland to a 12 yr old.
It's not going to be abandoned until there is real systemic change.
