Oregon cops post 'I am Darren Wilson' images on Facebook

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The chief of Portland, Ore.'s police on Monday ordered three officers to remove"I am Darren Wilson" images from their Facebook pages.

The image in question refers to the officer who shot and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri on Aug. 9. An "I am Darren Wilson" bracelet is shown wrapped around a Portland Police Bureau badge.

PPB Chief Michael Reese and Mayor Charlie Hales issued statements about the Facebook posts on Monday morning, just hours before a grand jury decision would likely be announced in the case.

"I was alerted to these images this morning and immediately ordered their removal through the officers' chain of command," Reese said. "The image displayed does not represent this organization and was very inflammatory in nature. Officers certainly have a right to have and express their opinions but not using an official badge of the Portland Police Bureau."

1. As one who came of age during the 60's,

I vividly remember when police were angrily referred to as "pigs". For a period of time, through neighborhood and community policing, the image of the police seemed to improve.

The current militarization of police has thrown us back to an us vs. them situation and police (for the most part) have reclaimed the "pig" title.

2. Someone at one time

said something along the lines of,to many of today's new Police Officers are the ones who were bullied in High School and now got a job as a Cop and they have a badge and a gun,and now are the new bully. Difference,now it legitimatizes their behavior.

and also any officer who might have "liked" the three posts.

Whether or not he goes to trial, he killed an unarmed 18 year boy. How can anybody want to be a part of that?

We may not like what someone says or what they post, but free speech is FREE SPEECH.

which is what they did. The photo in question is of a portland badge with the I am Darren Wilson over it. That they can't do.
