Push to Boycott Black Friday in Wake of Ferguson Decision........ what say you?

The movement, also known as the “No Justice, No Profit” boycott, is gaining steam on social media, especially on Twitter,
where the hashtags #BlackFridayBlackOut, #BlackFridayProtest and #BoycottBlackFriday are being used to spread the message:

The Justice for Michael Brown Leadership Coalition is encouraging protesters to hit the nation “where it hurts” and boycott any holiday spending.

Just because black friday is b.s. , but i don't get the connection to the brown case and not sure others will as well. Seems there are more effective ways to deliver the intended message?

and am seeing people making the connection of not feeding the system that is keeping them down.
Wal-Mart workers are going on strike on Black Friday, as well.

I applaud it, because I am seeing people uniting all across the country ( and in Europe, too---mass marches in London, right now as I type)

who all oppose the grotesque monstrosity into which our society has devolved. Angry about the Brown decision? Angry about the 1%? Angry about energy policy? Let's all get together & boycott all these damn greed peddlers at once. We want to send one simple message at first: The Public is Pissed. We can get down to details about the myriad of reasons why once we get their attention with the metaphorical 2x4 of a mass strike.

The Michael Brown mess is one more reason for me to opt out of this idiocy.

There are a lot of kids that enjoy the parade. I dont think shutting it down will get people on your side.

As for black friday, the only place Im shopping is Lowes.

the income they receive that day, many small buisinesses depend on Christmas shopping to keep in buisseness. The protests
over this are just turning more people against the black community. The few staunch Democrats I know do not back Brown
including the black folks I know.

well beyond Black Friday... and Black Friday is pushed primarily by large corporate stores not "small local business"

I am not in favor of advertising for American Express but their "Shop Small" campaign is better...

https://www.americanexpress.com/us/small-business/shop-small/rally?linknav=us-open-shopsmall-subnav-rally

In 2010, American Express founded Small Business Saturday to help businesses with their most pressing need — getting more customers. The day encourages people to shop at small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The single day has grown into a powerful movement, and more people are taking part than ever before. This year, the big day is Nov 29.

if we as minority and liberal minded consumers banded together to show our economic power it could hurt those in power but I think this should be more localized in the areas where police brutality is heaviest like NYC, LA, and Ferguson. Making this nationwide seems like using a sword where a surgical knife would do.

Personally, a call to boycott "Black Friday" is totally meaningless, since I have never in my life gone shopping on the day after Thanksgiving anyway. This year will be no different than any other year.
