"Looting is Wrong" (Original Post) Triana Nov 2014 OP
So looting is right... ileus Nov 2014 #1
No. But blazing hypocrisy is also wrong. Perhaps even moreso. n/t Triana Nov 2014 #2
So what if Native Americans say looting is wrong? ileus Nov 2014 #8
It's not about "right" or "wrong." Destruction of property in general is certainly not a moral good. nomorenomore08 Nov 2014 #16
And murder is also *far* worse than theft. n/t nomorenomore08 Nov 2014 #15

"justifying" looting, or pointing out rank hypocrisy that's equally unjustified? Triana Nov 2014 #14
This tweet is finding hypocrisy where there is none. Looting is universally wrong and deplorable. chrisa Nov 2014 #19
I like. But of course this will be misunderstood LawDeeDah Nov 2014 #18

What the OP is really about (IMO) is putting things in their proper perspective.

In some sense I think these situations help us to see the true face of the assumptions that we live under which are built into our psyche at a very young age.

Property is a way of maintaining the class structure in our society. That is its sole purpose.

Who knew all that peaceful marching was just a smokescreen to steal land, labor, and resources from poor countries?

The things you learn from twitter.

because breaking into stores to take stuff shows how sincerely you care about racial profiling and police brutality.

Very compelling.

Then I'd wear the shoes around town snd tell people the shoes are dedicated to the memory of Michael Brown (very moving). The liquor is just to occasionally toast to his memory. Very sincere!

Just doing my part to stop police brutality and racial profiling!

Once again, another person reaches into the magic bag of historical cherry-picking to try and justify behavior that shouldn't be justified. How much do you want to bet that this person's computer was built by "poor countries" and that it is powered by "stolen resources?"

It's even worse when infiltrators go to a peaceful protest and hijack it for the purpose of looting and destruction. By that same logic, should nobody in the US point out how bad it is to murder someone because the US murdered Native Americans in the past? The whole concept here is complete nonsense.
