Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who receives Secret Service protection, has condemned the alleged misconduct, telling radio host Laura Ingraham that "I'd clean house." But he expressed confidence in Director Sullivan.
"The right thing to do is to remove people who have violated the public trust and have put their play time and their personal interests ahead of the interests of the nation," Romney said.

Yeah, that's the right thing to do to an elite trained team who is in charge of protecting you!

He has more important things to do than get to the bottom of a who-did-what story in the agency.

(31,805 posts)His life is the most important. SS management is clearly not doing its job. The first three out were supervisors. I don't know when it began and I don't care but there is a culture of unprofessional conduct in the agency. Do you seriously think this was a 'few bad apples'? If a few thousand agents have to be shown the door so be it.

(35,692 posts)He might be able to request that someone be reassigned if he felt uncomfortable with them for some reason but I don't believe that he could fire someone - at least not directly. The Secret Service has a Director who reports to the Secretary of the Treasury, I believe.
So for Romney to say he would "clean house" indicates some ignorance I believe.

(31,805 posts)The Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, is appointed by and reports to President Obama. So everyone works for him. He is the boss of the Executive branch. I don't propose that Obama personally review personnel files and recommend who to fire. But I do propose that he tell Janet Napolitano that the conduct in Columbia was unacceptable and heads should roll until this is rooted out.
