One thing you learn in New England is to have a secondary source of heat. One you can also cook on is preferable.
It's something I carried through here in NM, where a small wood stove occupies a corner of the living room.

(60,010 posts)3. Mid 1980's, same thing where i lived.
The Turkey was in the oven, the snow was falling, and the power went out, all over Western part of the state.
That wood stove came in handy.
No problem cooking the vegies on it, but since I had no oven, stove top turkey parts was not quite as much fun as oven turkey.

Most of our town is without power and we've been told it might be days. I'm so grateful for our 30 year old generator!
