Ready For A Thanksgiving Day Dust-Up?

Banning political discussion from Turkey Day would probably be a great idea in many families. But if you have a brother-in-law who parrots, verbatim, the most recent Rush Limbaugh or Michael Savage show every time he opens his mouth, it's probably hopeless. Place settings of the nice red, white and blue illustration above aren't likely to solve anything. Facts don't penetrate the conservative mind. As Ken made clear when he defined "the whole hulking Modern American Right" Tuesday: "Our brains are like a fortress, and no way can you come in."

That isn't going to stop someone like Twitter superstar @LOLGOP from trying. Yesterday he published 5 Things To Tell Your Republican Relatives At Thanksgiving Dinner. "If," he suggests, "you make it to dessert and your uncle wants to rub in some election results, here are a few truth nuggets to salt his defensive wounds. To make sure he takes you seriously, tell him you read them all in email forwards."

1. More net jobs have been created under Obama than under both Bushes combined.

That’s right. In less than 6 years, more new jobs have been created under this president than in 12 full years of George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. As of last August’s jobs report, 5,142,000 net jobs have been created since February 2009. Compare that to 2,637,000 under H.W. and 1,282,000 under W. And we’ve had about 200,000 new jobs a month since then.

Of course, if you don’t subtract the millions of jobs that were lost as Obama inherited W.’s economy, Obama’s number would grow to over 10 million.

All of us in "nonpolitical" regions were absurdly confused. Even our local channels were (and are) reporting all of the ways the country is better.

My guess is that Fox News brainwashes most of the voters. I know this sounds simplistic, but they are everywhere, and their bosses control the mindset of America.

3. Well I guess being better than Bush is a success then.

Can't deny that.
But then we have lower expectations now...it is enough that the stock market is doing well, and that the rich are getting richer.
But the wars continue, and the Constitution is still being trampled on, but GDP is up, and there are more minimum wage jobs that you can work at to keep you from starvation...so it must be good.

The Bush crash/depression reached its low point a month or so after Bush took office
so the plunged Dow to 6500 and unemployment to 10.5% and the GDP down to -11%.

Firstly, and most importantly, it's worth noting that income inequality has grown under President Obama. I'm sure Wall St. might agree that this has been a successful presidency. Northrop Grumman may share the sentiment as well.

But don't be surprised if terming Obama's presidency a success puts a look of shock on the faces of some -e.g., the record number of deported workers, the children and families whose lives have been and are affected in a terrible way via Obomber's drone policy, Chelsea Manning and Ed Snowden, journalists in general, Gitmo detainees, et cetera, et cetera.

Has ask for bills to repair our crumbling infrastructure but the deaf Republicans would rather say no. It could have provided jobs we are capable of handling.

in the state house can't pay their cronies out of the public treasury, they stonewall everything. And a lot has suffered due to their anti-public education, etc. agenda. We got all of our Democratic officials to sever ties with ALEC but the rest are proud of being part of the Koch agenda. Turn it all over to the millionaires and billionaires or we'll block everything. Extortionists!

Overwhelms sanity, just more dumb moves. I am happy they finally cracked the ceiling on Grover Norquist nonsense, and the world continues to turn.
