Corruption in politics is like sausage making; no one wants to know how things get done, so quit fussing. | |

(45,274 posts)Ask a question like that among a bunch of left-wing, impractical Camilles who have no clue about how the world operates, and what kinda answer ya expect to get? Nothing Rahm Emanuel or Debbie Wasserman Scheiße wold advocate, that's fer damsure.

(10,559 posts)I have personally been riled up when Republicans get away with bad things/get convinced Democrats are idiots who think "playing nice" is always the way to go, but at the end of the day, I don't want corruption in politics - I want a fair fight, and if that means slinging the occassional mud ball at someone playing dirty (what a metaphor! lol!) I expect someone to throw the punch.
But I have seen "my team/their team" used several times (Bush/Obama; Ferguson), and I even asked the question "why aren't the Ferguson Republicans screaming bloody murder?"
I was curious if my views were common (corruption=bad, regardless of party), or whether I am just...naive.

(5,279 posts)Multipliers in sentencing according to governmental level.
Times 1 for city level (below 200,00 in population)
1.5 X for county and metropolitan level
2 X for state level
2.5 X for federal level.
Both briber and bribee.
Mandatory sentencing extenders linked to dollar value in crime.
1 year per $100,00.00
Below threshold no extender
Sentencing for crime to be served prior to beginning extension period.

(9,033 posts)is willing to say that they are in favor of corruption? Anyone? Even Republicans wouldn't say that, and neither will their billionaire buddies.

(10,559 posts)Because "Democrats!"
But you are right - when it is put out there in pure "black and white" -- it does seem unlikely that people will agree with it, doesn't it?
Yet in real life, everyone sees shades of gray....

(9,033 posts)it would be less shocking on the other side, since they seem more comfortable with ends over means (murdering abortion doctors in protest of "murder", for example).

ON EDIT: And to be fair, there is the whole "Tammany Hall" and "dead people in Chicago vote" thing in our past...?

(151 posts)is perjury, a crime.
Yet, when Bill Clinton did it, that was OK.

(10,559 posts)But would you care to do a compare/contrast on "criminal" behavior of Bill Clinton versus George W. Bush? I am interested in your thoughts.
