An Australian game journalist has stumbled across a way to make angry boys think twice about sending her rape threats on social media: she won’t hesitate to contact their mothers.

It’s a depressingly common narrative: a woman game developer or writer says or does something that angers men, they inundate her social media account with rape and death threats in the hopes of getting her to shut up. Occasionally it gets so bad that the person has to flee their home or contact the police.

Despite the horrible nature of online harassment, there is little police or citizens can do to stop it. Social media provides a barrier between the victim and bully that prevents consequences.

Enter Alanah Pearce, who decided the best way to stop internet rape threats was not to confront the bully himself, but the person he probably fears the most: his mom.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone that does that should be charged with making threats.

The potential future rapist needs some lessons in social behavior and criminal justice systems.

I see no excuses for his actions.

It won't take long before they don't or use the name of somebody they don't like.

That's why these threats should be reported to the police as well.

But I'd also report it to the police as long as the perps use their full names. If they get wise to that, maybe it wouldn't be possible to contact their moms. I LOVE this, though!!!!
