Refrigerated hash oil explodes in Auburn home

Yegads! While I've personally been a consumer of mj for almost 25 years (from back when "Canadian weed" was a treat lol) it never really seemed that dangerous until now (on it's own at least-& I've been alcohol free for 20 years! more harm reduction

It used to be that you could say "no one overdoses on pot" but now with the "dabs" you can. & the people manufacturing it can cause catastrophes! I know a couple of people who made hash back in the day, without issue, but this 21st century hash making is too risky and getting out of hand.

"The homeowner told police he and a friend were sitting on the couch when the refrigerator exploded. The explosion blew the fridge's door off, shattered a window and damaged the kitchen's ceiling and walls.

The homeowner originally told police he didn't know what caused the explosion but later admitted to a fire investigator that he'd cooked hash oil a few days ago and placed the unwashed tubes in the fridge.

Police said the homeowner was not arrested since the homeowner was not actively cooking the hash oil when the explosion occurred. No one was injured in the explosion."

because the oil itself always seemed pretty stable.

They probably thought it wouldn't volatize in the fridge. Surprise! Boom!

Morons.

The regular smoke shops have had an uptick in sales of more highly purified butane than the run of the mill zippo lighter refill, but it's a really bad idea, even for people who think it's okay even if they are "really careful" It'll eventually find an ignition source. The main driving dynamic seems to be vape systems adapted from ecigs for waxes and oils.

As convenient a method of ingestion that may be, its just not worth the risk of fooling around with liquid butane, isopropane etc..

Some people think they are invincible.
