Does anyone have information of the increase in the rat population across the globe

since neo-liberalism has been imposed on most of humanity.
Do you have info on the increase int eh rat population in your state or city?
My thesis is that we are going to have serious global outbreaks of rat related diseases because of cutbacks in public health, the privatization of garbage collection and the lack of disposal of garbage in poor neighborhoods.

Those who fail to study history will be doomed to repeat it.

Rats hate the smell of catnip so planting it around a house is a good way to snagglepuss Apr 2012 #9

But I do know I had to pay an exterminator $350 to kill 18 rats in my house. I used to hear scratchings in the walls at night and finally could not stand it any more and called a pest control person. I have electrical problems because of wire being chewed up. The rats are gone now and I hope there will not be any new ones looking for a home. I think my problem stemmed from the fact that some land was being cleared behind my house for construction and the rats decided my house would be a good new home.

I am an animal rights advocate and do not condone killing any animal, but these critters had to go.

My cul du sac has been rat free since the feral cats moved in.

and it just breaks my heart to have to get rid of them. they are the sweetest looking little creatures (my daughter had a mouse as a pet when she was little).

same for squirrels, they are a real danger to wiring and things.

sigh, everything is so violent.

We have a serious problem in Kingston - one that will cost over $200Jamaican.
Some of these rats are bigger than small dogs.
Guess we're lucky - the cats keep them away from here.

It was running to the building from a pile of trashbags on the curb that was about 3' high and 75' feet long.

When I asked about it, I was told it was a small one.

Greater human population in the world at greater densities would increase the rats available food. However, most parts of the world have improved sanitation and garbage collection tremendously since the plague era, which keeps the rat population down. I dont know about world wide, but it seems to be an ideal issue to address locally. Voice your concerns to your neighbors. If they feel as you, you all can form a neighborhood clean up group. Make sure theres no trash or garbage left around, keep vacant lots clean, etc. Besides making the neighborhood healthier, it will also make it prettier! (not that Jamaica needs any help being beautiful!)
