The Humane Society of the United States released a 30-second video public service announcement featuring Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick urging viewers to report animal cruelty and fighting activities in their communities to our toll-free animal fighting tip line. Vick is also featured in a new two-minute educational video from The HSUSs Pets for Life program featuring a direct message from him to young people, encouraging them to treat animals with kindness and care for their pets.
The videos were debuted to Simon Gratz High School students in Philadelphia on Friday.
An ambassador in the effort to prevent dogfighting
Michael Vick served time for illegal dogfighting, and hes an important ambassador for the message that dogfighting is cruel, that its a felony, and that we must be good to animals, said Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States. Mike has been making appearances for HSUSs anti-dogfighting campaign, and these videos will broaden our audience and remind people to report animal fighting crimes and help to build humane communities.
It's strange how a progressive website doesn't recognize that people have served their time, completed their sentences and can actually change.

(33,688 posts)Not to excuse in any way what Vick did. But the man served his time, didn't whine or complain about it, and has been a model citizen since getting out of prison. He has done everything that he has been asked to do and accepted the wrongfulness of what he did.
As far as I am concerned, the fact that Tony Dungy is willing to vouch for Vick tells me what I need to know. Dungy is as high-character a person as I have ever seen in any sport.
I have honestly come to believe that Vick really had no appreciation for the real nature of his actions but has accepted the blame that is duly his. Clearly, the man has turned over a new leaf and good on him for that.

(4,886 posts)give the guy a break.
I believe if someone has turned things around, as in this case, leave the guy ALONE.
But some*progressives* seem to have trouble with that.

(4,507 posts)When his career is over, when endorsements are no longer a factor, when it's been five, seven years since anyone has cheered him for doing anything athletic - when at that point he is still working on behalf of animals and to educate and persuade people to oppose dogfighting, then I will truly believe him.
With that said, he's exceeded my expectations so far, and, at least on the surface, it seems to my eyes that he's making a sincere go of it.
So I'm withholding judgment until the point down the road mentioned above, but I appreciate what he's been doing.
