Politics was never meant to be a "fight to the death".

Republicans are once again threatening to shut down our government. They are threatening to impeach the President if they do not get their way. They are threatening to make cuts to programs as a runaround to any executive orders by the President. They have little concern for the impact it might have on our country or the people in our country. It is a political battle to see who is the last one standing.

I seriously doubt that our forefathers ever envisioned such a reality as we are experiencing today? I believe they wanted heated debate and open discussion on every issue. Then they wanted the congress, there were no Parties, to reach a compromise where neither side got everything they wanted
and neither side would threaten to harm our nation for their own political benefit.

But what we have today is not what was created by the Founders. This has been created by modern politicians, out for their own power and fortune. They have no intention of "promoting the general welfare" of the people.

Much of the Preamble to the Constitution is not worth the paper it is written on, in the eyes of most of these politicians:

"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
