Romney asks GOP delegates to sign pledge, but some refuse
Posted by

CNN Political Reporter Peter Hamby

Scottsdale, Arizona (CNN) - Members of the Republican National Committee gathering in Arizona were invited to meet with Mitt Romney in private Friday and have their pictures taken with the presumptive GOP nominee, but there was a price of admission: loyalty.

RNC members and state GOP chairmen were welcomed into the private reception only after signing a form pledging to support Romney as a delegate to the national convention in Tampa.

All three members of Iowa's conservative RNC delegation – party chairman A.J. Spiker and committee members Steve Scheffler and Kim Lehman – attempted to enter the reception but were rebuffed after refusing to sign the delegate pledge.

The dispute became heated in the hallway outside, with the Iowans demanding to know why they had to sign a form to get their picture taken with the former Massachusetts governor.

Several of Romney's deputies on the committee assured the trio that they could keep their support a secret by checking the appropriate box, but they refused to do so.

And getting mad when people say they will support the nominee? Romney is creepy, petty and is going to be an absolute spectacle on the road to November.

Along with all the polite euphemisms for - "People just don't like that clueless, overprivileged Mitt-The-Twitt Romney."

And that's coming from his own party!

In fact, I'm starting to think "Romney is unlikeable" may be a serious understatement. Sort of like saying "Adolph Hitler sometimes behaved unpleasantly."

And why people in general get a queasy feeling about him. He acts like people are all Mormons and take secret vows to him. That will go over like a lead balloon for a lot of people.

He's a weirdo. People feel it instinctively.

It's like watching Ted Bundy campaign for President, not concerned at all about where all of the bodies are buried, but making people sign that they didn't see them.

the easier it is for us in the fall.

I mean honestly I think Obama will get in but we need to pick up as much of the House and Senate as we damn well can!

if he's planning for a coronation and not an swearing in... this is like vassals swearing fealty (allegiance) as if they're "liege men of life and limb". "I promise to support your nomination" instead of "I promise to support the nominee".

Their convention is going to be comedy or tragedy or both. Thank God the Dems go second. Better music, too.
