I watched the bond trial live, I listened to all of the pundits, and my conclusion is that Zimmerman's "apology" was self-serving, played to the judge and the media. My personal belief is that his incarceration has curtailed his "coon hunting," and he regrets that. Nothing else. Just that.

(8,492 posts)I'd flip out and beat the s.o.b. into oblivion if he even attempted to apologize.

(30,885 posts)The message he conveyed was that Trayvon's parents felt the "apology" was for the judge and the media.
There was also discussion over the wording "sorry for the loss of your son" versus "sorry I murdered your son."
It wasn't a "loss."
It was murder. You experience "loss" when someone is murdered but if I temporarily lose my car keys, it's not the same as having a member of my family murdered by a "self-apointed neighborhood watch captain."

(17,537 posts)Anyway I think it's pretty damned clear that the only thing this @**wipe is sorry about, is that he might actually have to spend real time in prison over this.* If he was truly sorry about Trayvon, he would have been distraught that night when he'd realized what he'd done, and since. I've seen zero evidence that he has any true remorse for his action.
(* actually I think it's highly unlikely that serious jail time will happen, and it REALLY pisses me off.)

(13,901 posts)"Im sorry I killed your son".
"Murdered" admits guilt. He clearly does not want to admit guilt, as he does not want to go to jail. Their whole legal argument is based on being justified in his actions, as I understand it. But even if that were not the case, I doubt any lawyer on earth would recommend their client say "I murdered".
But as far as I can tell, everyone agrees that he killed Trayvon. And if you felt justified in your actions, you could own them and still feel bad for the parents. "I'm sorry I killed your son" would fit.
Seems to me that while this is a play for the media and judge, it actually works against him, as it shows he does not feel justified in his actions, that he does feel guilty. Or he could apologize without trying to disassociate himself from them..

This was not a "loss." This was the murder of a child.

(51,367 posts)For once, he has a smart attorney, but not that smart. He's trying to humanize him after all the major PR missteps by the Zimmermans and their former clown attorneys.
But that ain't no apology. Here's a REAL apology, Zimmerman:
I only though of myself and let my fear and bigotry rule me. I shot your beautiful son needlessly, causing you pain I could never imagine. I do not ask for your foregiveness because I do not deserve it. I only ask that you be given the strength to go on without your son.

(34,108 posts)Zimmerman's attorney to him: You are going to have to at least appear remorseful in court.
Like that.
Amerigo Vespucci
(30,885 posts)1). When he was asked why it took him 50 days to show remorse ("I don;t understand the question" , and
2). When he CLAIMED he expressed remorse to one of the original investigating officers. As the prosecuting attorney said, "SO...we'll see that in the transcripts, then."
Amerigo Vespucci
(30,885 posts)...THAT was a misstep.
"I thought he was around my age, and didn't know if he was armed."
I also loved the fact that Pappy Zim said he ALWATS BELIEVED his son but didn't read that part in the past police report (when Zimmerman assaulted the cop) where the cop identified himself and Zimmerman said "I don't give a fuck WHO you are" and assaulted him anyway.
Zimmerman also put the noose around his own neck when asked if he had "changed his story" and he shot back "ABSOLUTELY NOT." All of his "stories" are on record.

(3,660 posts)The part where he said that he wasn't sure if Trayvon was armed and appeared to be around his age. Of course if he had been armed or Zimmerman thought for a second he was armed why on earth would he approach him. Zimmerman knew all along the kid wasn't armed and that's why he chased after him. I am sure that once he had the boy on the ground and he pulled out his gun he had to use it. After all carrying a loaded gun while chasing after someone just isn't complete unless you use the gun.
The part where his father and mother claimed that he did all kinds of charity work in mostly minority neighborhoods as if to prove he wasn't a racist sack of shit was even more pathetic than the apology. Zimmerman parents claim he is a person that has never harmed anyone, yet two prior arrests, including domestic violence assault against a woman and attacking a police officer would seem to indicate just the opposite. In fact much of Zimmerman's past seems to indicate that he is someone who has an anger problem and has a problem with authority. Probably why he ignored the 911 officers commands not to pursue after Martin and the reason he was carrying a gun in the first place.

(46,192 posts)non apology apology. classic.
and he said in his "apology" that he had thought Trayvon was near his age.
but when he called 911 before shooting he said Trayvon looked "late teens".
you're right, it's bullshit.

(8,582 posts)more so than making an apology. To say he thought he was close to his age defends himself against attacking a boy. Same thing when he said he didn't know if he had a gun. He is defending himself for killing Trayvon.
Amerigo Vespucci
(30,885 posts)...and I may reveal myself as being naive by doing so, but...I seldom wonder if people I pass on the street are "armed." I walk through good parts of town and bad parts of town. Maybe I SHOULD wonder if the people around me are "armed." But I don't.
That's where Zimmerman revealed himself and his motives. This wasn't an apology, it was a public declaration of "innocence" while Trayvon's parents sat in the room, and I personally hope this sick motherfucker BURNS for what he did.

(8,582 posts)On the 911 tape he tells dispatch Trayvon is in his late teens. On stand he said he thought Trayvon was close to his age. I'd go with his first impression on the tape.
Amerigo Vespucci
(30,885 posts)...between his own statements, and those of his family members, there's a bif gaping hole where "consistency" should exist.
I understand the whole "court of public opinion" thing, but based on what I've seen so far (and it's a LOT), I see a guy with a violent past who doesn't like "coons," because "they always get away."

(11 posts)Because he killed so many Black males before Trayvon.
It's a shame that some people glom onto certain events and try to shape them into some grand conspiracy instead of a tragic misunderstanding. It points into their consciousness; not the Truth.

"Same thing I'd say to any survivor of violent crime: "Nobody should have to experience that, and I'm sorry you have."
"The same words of sympathy I would have for those who are victims to gang attacks (I was), drunk drivers (my co-worker was), or airplanes falling out of the sky (like several Va Beach residents were earlier this month)."
"Usually just sympathies."
"Magically eliminating guns wouldn't magically eliminate violence."
"I'd say to them, focus on the people who's fault it WAS that they were victims of gun violence. It wasn't mine. It wasn't the nras. It was the people that pulled the trigger. It might have even been people that mandated being disarmed, yet took no measures to protect those they demanded disarmed."
"I am sorry about your situation, But it does not effect my stance on Gun Ownership"
"Situational"
"Exercise your 2A rights."
"I guess that would depend on the particular situation. Many instances are unique."
"Same as I would to victims of drunk drivers. I am sorry for what they have had to go through."
"Prosecute the criminals. I have done no harm with my guns so leave me, and those like me, alone."
"Sometimes bad things happen to good people. We should not penalize other good people because of it. We must never give up essential liberty while pursuing safety."
"The same thing I would say to the victims of knife violence, car violence, or fist violence. Why should the means matter in expressing sympathy to a victim? Is a gun violence victim deserving of more sympathy than another?"
"I empathize and sympathize with all victims of violent crime. After that I focus on the actual cause of the violence: the two most common being poverty and mental disorder. These are things we can actually do something about to lessen violence."
"Other than sorry that happened to you, nothing much."
"Sorry your family went through that."
"I can sympathize, I'm also a victim of gun violence, I was shot in the leg by an armed criminal back in the 80s. I'm very sorry for what they are going through."
"Same thing I'd say to anyone is suffering from any negative life situation."

(14,061 posts)Another WTF moment: When he said he thought Travon was closer to his size and older....so...as if THAT would have justified the shooting?
The guy just should have kept his fucking mouth shut.
