We're ashamed of what has happened to our country to such a degree we have no words left.

even laugh at them anymore; just shake my head and hope none of them ever comes into my space.

Studies show that...
"Abstinence Only" programs leads to higher teen pregnancy rates
Higher teen pregnancy rates lead to higher school drop out rates
Less education leads to a higher likelihood of being a Republican voter

When you connect the dots, the agenda is obvious.

If kids don't understand about their "private parts" how do they understand abuse?

Some in my generation grew up thinking pregnancy was the result of heavy kissing. That left some of us wide open for anything that happened near our crotch.

in the 60's. I was molested and raped at 5 to 6 years old. I completely understand what you're saying.

I knew that the school would provide nothing in the way of useful sex education.

So I did.

I drummed into her from the time she could understand where babies come from that it was her responsibility not to make a baby until she was grown up and ready.

I also suggested that she postpone giving in to those compelling sexual urges that accompany adolescence, but I knew that I was probably pissing up a rope. So I made sure she had access to family planning. Regular visits to the gyno ("if you don't want to talk to me, talk to the doctor.&quot Information about disease. No judgment, no questions asked. She wants the pill, fine, we go get the pill. I remind her that even with the pill, condoms are a must.

I think she gets it.

This is, after all, part of being a parent: educating your child about the world, and trying to impart some sort of ethical standards. I never held with the abstinence crap, because everyone knows it doesn't work...so I live in the real world. My kid's having sex. Oh, no. Better deal with it before something undesirable happens.

but i am concerned with states that are trying to outlaw the pill.
I was on the pill when I first got married because we could not afford for me to get pregnant as my income was needed and this was 40 years ago. We had to pay rent, car insurance, buy food, etc and my husband could not afford those bills on his salary alone.
I never talked about abstinence to my daughter , but did talk about how a man and a women procreate because I KNOW abstinence does not work with teens and early twenties. She went on the pill.

Teabagger, "I'm against unmarried teens being taught sex education and having contraceptives"

me, "Why? Teenagers are having sex."

Teabagger, "They shouldn't be having sex."

me, "But they are having sex. Don't you think it's better if they can get contraceptives?"

Teabagger, "No. They shouldn't have sex until they're married."

me, "But they are having sex."

Teabagger, "They shouldn't have sex."

me, "But they are having sex."

Teabagger, "Well they shouldn't be having sex until they're married."

He got the last word.

Sigh...
