(21,646 posts)if they can dumb down their base even more it helps the cause
The next generation will fall in line much easier
I can not believe what is being taught at public schools now days and I am SICK of spending my whole summer having to teach what should be covered in the school year but is not and by that I mean basic reading, writing and arithmetic!!!
Last grade school spelling list came home with misspelled words..... and I do not blame the teacher these templates are handed to them they have no control.
2 grades of teachers expressing the dislike for the present math curriculum when I questioned what is going on with the math at basic grade level school and they are not teaching basic needs for later life ...like how to add or divide in one or two steps
My daughter was doing an equation like 96 / 12 or something with just 2 digits...and some number like 536 came up and was used as part of the work done by her to get the answer in front of me at home.
536 should never be part of the math formula for what is 96 divided by 12
Insisting that everyone get the same answer for 96/12 is merely enforcing rigid uniformity.
Maybe everyone in the class should give their answer, and then take a vote.

(21,646 posts)and the way they were getting to it involved a 3digit number at some point of the mumbo jumbo they are teaching = it will take common people very long to do simple math let alone anything harder and that is a financial sector wet dream. Their kids go to private school for rule

(27,985 posts)I can't even conceptualize where that number came from.
But, as someone who uses division in my work every day, I can say that having calculator skills is important. When I have to work that stuff out by hand, I get brain freeze. Even so, I guarantee that, using handwritten division, 536 will never be part of a calculation that starts with 96 divided by 12. Never.

(21,646 posts)but really I think dumb is good to these folks and if the sign is spelled wrong then even less the crowd will know and some schools are making sure the crowd gets bigger and dumber
FYI My daughter is a straight A student ( for what that is worth now)

(809 posts)If you were the print shop, and the Walker campaign presented copy for printing with misspellings, would you feel obligated to correct it?

(8,434 posts)came to me to print something I knew was spelled incorrectly, I would probably offer a discount to get more copies out in public.

(3,974 posts)The "Moran" sign would have made a great charity auction piece.
I might look into acquiring a "Governer" sign- wonder if the Republican headquarters around here has any...

(20,453 posts)You get to be treasurer. You might have saved some money by putting your sign perpendicular to the road for drivers to sneer from BOTH sides while laughing their ASSES OFF.... However, it's probably one of those one-sided signs...
Yes... definitely one sided...

(17,505 posts)Because of course, writing copy, printing and putting it on public display professionally is exactly the same a posters posting on a public website.
Let's not encourage people to be better at spelling... even with a spell checker. Let's just smile and pretend they did nothing wrong. Oh those fragile egos couldn't take it!

(4,847 posts)maybe we should concentrate on walker's dictatorial policies while he's spouting limited government, and his ties to big business, like the koch's, over the interests of the people of wisconsin, especially labor. Or, maybe we should concentrate on the investigations going on for corruption by his very own sidekicks. But, his adoring admirers still wouldn't get it. Would they?
