NYPD cop who gunned down innocent unarmed black man was texting union rep as victim lay dying

It was actually a neighbor's 911 call who alerted emergency responders.

Speaking out for the first time, the shattered mother of Akai Gurley broke down in tears Friday as she pleaded for justice.

“There’s nothing in this world that can heal my pain and my heartache,” Sylvia Palmer sobbed. “I need justice for my son because my son didn’t deserve to die like that.”

The Florida-based Palmer broke her silence hours after the Daily News revealed that Gurley’s shooter, rookie police officer Peter Liang, was allegedly texting his union representative as the unarmed man lay dying.

It was a neighbor’s 911 call that alerted emergency responders to the shooting inside a darkened Pink Houses stairwell on Nov. 20.

Liang and his partner Shaun Landau were inexplicably incommunicado for six and a half minutes following the fatal encounter, sources told The News.

In the critical moments after the shooting, the cops’ commanding officer and an emergency operator — knowing the duo was in the area — tried to reach them in vain, sources said.

Of course they will probably get off scot free.
