Federal Employees and Retirees may be in for a tough time ahead

Now that we’ve let the Conservatives gain control of Congress, it looks like Federal Employees and Retirees are in for a rough road ahead.

Things to look out for:

More pay freezes. FE have already faced a three-year pay freeze.

Higher retirement premiums for new employees.

A huge assault on Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB). H.R. 1780 has been introduced by the Conservatives to remove FE from the FEHB Program, a very successful health insurance program. This would result in huge premium increases especially on retirees.

Actions that reduce the compensation for FE will impact the economic recovery.

Action: Contact your representatives and tell them that we need a strong and vibrant Federal Employees workforce to provide those needed services (e.g. services for our veterans) and to resist the assaults on federal service by the evil Conservatives.
Also, Federal Employees and retirees should join the lobby group NARFE ( National Active and Retired Federal Employees Assn. (narfe.org)

2. Perhaps it would be kinder to have a "hitman" clause in retirement plans

You retire... they have a party for you, and then, someday, somewhere, your hitman shows up and you never have to worry about retirement money again

of course
