San Bernardino County lost its legal bid Friday to block a strike next week by its more than 1,200-member nurses union.

But negotiations between the county and representatives of the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United union continued late into the evening Friday, with the assistance of a state mediator.

Negotiations may or may not continue over the weekend, depending upon how things ended late Friday, officials said.

San Bernardino Superior Court Judge Thomas Garza denied the request for an injunction because the case had been scheduled to be heard Monday morning by the Public Employment Relations Board in the courtroom of Judge Pamela King.

When nurses strike, hospitals are understaffed. Understaffed hospitals or hospitals with under trained people can and do cause the death of patients. A nurses strike in 1984 had a direct cause on my sisters death from a minor operation. She died 2 weeks prior to her 31st birthday.
