House discussing bill

Yesterday, Elizabeth Warren was on Rachel, as well as made a speech in the Senate, urging Democrats to not vote for the bill that will allow banks to make risky bills that would be backed by the government, the same as the government backs legitimate transactions...that without rules could cause the government to fail again....

I've been listening to the Congress all morning, and I don't see how the bill even got this far because the Republicans don't want it any more than the Democrats. Both don't want more money in government, or Citigroup running the country and I don't understand how it got this far...nobody read it till today?

I don't get it. Why is Warren so excited about this bill. Nobody in congress likes it and there is no danger that it will pass..

1. It could pass.

Because the government is out of spending power, and time. If this had been brought to the floor a month or two ago, sure, it would have failed a vote outright. It was deliberately held to the last minute to increase the pressure to pass it. That is the danger, that enough people will decide to pass it simply to 'avert a government shutdown'.

think Jeb Bush!

But they ALSO added another poison pill in that of funding DHS for only 3 months....so they can start THAT fight after they take their new seats...which was a bone tossed to the Teabaggers...

5. I only listened for an hour or so

but heard Rep. Louise Slaughter (R) go on and on about that bank thingy that would make citygroup the head of the government, and she would not vote for it...and she was very opposed to any more money being put into politic campaigns.

I remember her well because I had to check the TV to see if what I was hearing wasn't my imagination. Slaughter also said something about putting an end to the time and money being spent on Benghazi, and she sounded very tired of that topic.

I always hated Slaughter till today. A few men whose names I can't recall also said they could not support the bank thing that was added when the bill was "finished" as far as they were concerned.

Then I went out to sweep the garage thinking that even the Reps don't want the bill and wondered why Warren was worried about it. I see now that quite a few Reps want it passed, and Warren was just on TV and she mentioned that some Gopers opposed the bill too, because of the bank meltdown we already went thru. She must be talking about the group that I heard, but now things have changed. I could have sworn that they said that Biden was encouraging
Dems to vote for it - Pelozzi said hell no in politic talk..Warren says no too. Very confusing situation.

do it now before the spending bill is passed. There are a lot of other things that should not be in their either but this is the most disgusting one. They are setting us up for another bailout.

but as Warren said, even some Reps are against it. If they rerun it tonight, listen to Slaughter in particular and the few men who follow her...

The bill can't pass without Dem support - but they won't get all the Rep support...wouldn't want to bet the farm on this one...

7. Well, now you know why she was excited. It passed the House, and now the Senate.

I wish you'd been right, and there actually had been no danger it would pass.
