The Hill:Obama backs 'cromnibus' ahead of vote

http://thehill.com/policy/finance/226817-white-house-signals-support-for-cromnibus-ahead-of-critical-vote

Obama backs 'cromnibus' ahead of vote

The White House on Thursday urged the House to pass a $1.1 trillion government spending package despite riders it opposes that would repeal a portion of the Dodd-Frank financial reform law and loosen limits on campaign contributions.

“The Administration supports House passage of H.R. 83, making appropriations for fiscal year (FY) 2015, and for other purposes,” a statement of administration policy said.
The statement was released about an hour before the House was scheduled to vote on a “cromnibus” spending bill in an effort to win over critical Democratic votes and prevent a government shutdown

I use this one. I find it aptly symbolic, because corporatism IS terrorism:

A paragraph from Chris Hedges' piece on Truthdig today that adroitly summarizes where we are.....
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025930017

Corporations have captured every major institution, including the judicial, legislative and executive branches of government, and deformed them to exclusively serve the demands of the market. They have, in the process, demolished civil society. Karl Polanyi in “The Great Transformation” warned that without heavy government regulation and oversight, unfettered and unregulated capitalism degenerates into a Mafia capitalism and a Mafia political system. A self-regulating market, Polanyi writes, turns human beings and the natural environment into commodities. This ensures the destruction of both society and the natural environment. The ecosystem and human beings become objects whose worth is determined solely by the market. They are exploited until exhaustion or collapse occurs. A society that no longer recognizes that the natural world and life have a sacred dimension, an intrinsic value beyond monetary value, commits collective suicide. Such societies cannibalize themselves. This is what we are undergoing. Literally.

And, predictably, the propaganda machine is already on the job, trying hard to pretend that helping Wall Street loot this nation into a husk is the unavoidable work of a good Democrat....

knows that will kill our chances in 2016. If we lose in 2016 and there is a Republican president much worse legislation will be passed and you can forget about Dodd-Frank entirely.
Sometimes you have to play the long game. At least if this budget passes and the sequestration ends the economy will improve and that will help us more in 2016. If we have a big enough win in 2016 we can undo the changes to Dodd-Frank.

This is not close to the election, so based on your logic a shutdown now wouldn't affect the outcome either.

How would this "kill our chances in 2016" if the repubs did it closer to the 2014 elections than 2 years out with the same inept media?

It encourages wavering Dems to give another hand out to Wall Street Banks and more money to flow from shadow sources with deep pockets into our Political Campaigns.

He just shot Dems in the foot unless they stand tall and listen to Senator Elizabeth Warren on the dangers of repealing the Dodd Frank provisions that would allow another Bank Bail out down the road and the cautions of allowing even more Citizen's United Decision interference in Elections.

Heard a Bloomberg Business News discussion on this today and one Wall Street Hedge Fund "Big Wig" who said that this was dangerous for the American people who will be on the hook when the banks start taking more risks and he hoped Obama would threaten to veto it.

Who needs Republicans when Democrats are supporting bank bailout provision written by Citi, legalized pension theft and Iraq war levels of military spending all of which were slipped into the bill.

Hopefully some Democrats in the Senate are willing to put the brakes on this crap. Sad sad day.

The section of Dodd-Frank that has been taken out is one that prevented the government from bailing out derivative traders in the future if shit hit the fan. That is such an absurd piece of legislation because if there was to be a bailout, there would necessarily be legislation for that bailout, and therefore if there was a damn bailout the part of Dodd-Frank forbidding it would've been struck down anyway.

As far as campaign contributions, Oligarchy United and Citizens United already said there are no limits, so it's hardly controversial at all.
