dozens of congressional staffers walked out in protest of the recent grand jury decisions failing to indict the two officers who killed Eric Garner and Michael Brown. The result was an incredible display of solidarity, with staffers raising their hands in the air to invoke Brown's "hands up, don't shoot" image.

Deja vu all over again..........
There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down.............................................

(53,339 posts)But organizers wanted to do something that would welcome participants, Democrat and Republican, from throughout the House and Senate. These organizers decided more militant tactics could have made the gathering less inclusive, and opted for a more moderate approach.
...
The Congressional Black Associates, Senate Black Legislative Staff Caucus, the Brooke-Revels Society, the Congressional African Staff Association, and the African American Women on the Hill Networkall dedicated to representing African American staffers on Capitol Hillare helping to organize the protest as a "show of unity and solidarity to stand shoulder to shoulder with other peaceful demonstrations."
These groups will be joined by members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Staff Association and the Congressional Hispanic Staff Association.

(2,150 posts)I'm loving this. We need this kind of solidarity to move our government officials and law enforcement to take it seriously -- racism is real, and law enforcement needs to change its behavior. Each incident of activist solidarity adds to the drumbeat for change.

How wonderful that this movement is not stopping , I was worried people would go on to the next thing.
Anyone have any memory of this happening before about anything?
I notice CNN had a snarky headline, something like Congressional staffers walk off their job.

(51,076 posts)you know who I think is the most likely people who are and its religious people, of the people I know it is. I'm non religious and I know a lot of non religious people and not a single one of them hate on anyone because of who that are. Have no room in our heart to hate on anything or anyone.
Exactly why I seen the light years ago and dropped the bible to never read it again. This is my opinion, I'm entitled to it and I'm not calling out anyone rather calling out a cause, religion, of why there is so much strife in this world. I'd like to see a world totally completely free from all religions, then there could actually be Peace.
My apologies for being so blunt in this, sorry

(37,726 posts)I'm thinking that the failure to oppose torture, murder and lawlessness in Iraq and Afghanistan, has led the police to believe that it's okay on the streets of the USA, to torture and murder also, now that they have all that military hardware and seemingly there is no longer any fear among the elite and their well armed thugs, that they will ever pay for their criminal activity. Lawlessness begets lawlessness. The idea that some in this country are above the law, or too big to jail, is totally repulsive to me. "This Aggression Should Not Stand," in the United states of America...of all fucking places, on this planet!
