Wahlberg gets his pardon from the only person who matters – the VICTIM

Link

MailOnline has found Trinh - and victim says he had no idea who attacked him, forgives the star and wants to meet him face to face
Trinh, now a married father reveals he actually lost eye before attack when he served alongside US forces fighting Communists in South Vietnam

I'm shocked that there's more to the story than what was originally revealed. That never happens around here.

2. Yeah, that kind of changes the story a little...

Doesn't forgive his actual racism and stuff that was said, but there's a lot of that which is deeply embedded in communities that kids/teens find themselves saying in order to fit in with their peers.

4. He beat two men that night. He also attacked some African American kids with rocks.

Those are also human beings. Thus it is dishonest to say 'his victim, the only one that matters' when he had multiple victims over a period of time. There were others.
I think when making a post that takes an arch swipe at the accuracy employed by others, it is not really that good to imply there was only one victim when there were several.

This is what you said:

No effort to supplement or correct. To the contrary, you seemed to agree, albeit through snark at DU posters.

Vision or not, there was still a vicious racist assault and a long rap sheet.

7. Speaking of not revealed, Wahlberg could have paid him, now that Wahlberg wants a pardon.

Supposedly, the victim said he never knew who his attacker was until this pardon business hit the fan recently.

Doesn't that kind of mean Wahlberg got very rich quite a few years ago, but never tried to make any kind of amends to this man, not even an apology, let alone financial assistance?

Also, I always thought that all society had an interest in the workings of the justice system, not only the victim.

And, Wahlberg had quite a record apart from this victim.

Finally, victims and their loved ones forgive assailants and murders all the time, but none of them necessarily get pardoned because of the forgiveness. So why is that all that really matters now? Because Wahlberg is rich and famous and wants to get richer by doing things felons are not allowed to do?

I don't find that learning about the victim's good heart (and/or paid off heart), now that he FINALLY learned who his assailant was, is a reason to take back a single thing I posted on this a while back.

an asshole who has paid his price to society

I don't believe felons should be punished for the duration of the remainder of their lives once they leave prison behind them. It serves no purpose. Allow felons the opportunity to fully reintegrate themselves into society. Wahlberg is a shitty example, but the message is worth repeating.
