Bay Area storm doesn’t stop protesters in S.F.

The storm may have flooded highways, brought down trees and forced the closure of schools across the Bay Area, but it didn’t stop protesters from coming out Thursday evening in San Francisco, where they blocked traffic on Market Street.

A group of about 20 people stood under umbrellas stretched across the city’s main thoroughfare near Powell Street chanting the familiar refrains of “Black lives matter!” and What do we want? Justice! When do we want it? Now!” as buses stacked up and onlookers stopped to see what was going on....

Chirag Bhakta, 27, of San Francisco, who helped organize the demonstration, said the group came together at the last minute, with plans being laid earlier in the day on social media. He said that storm was one of the reasons they wanted to stage the rally.

“One of the reasons we wanted to do it today is because of the weather,” he said. “We can’t just be out here when it’s convenient. Life is inconvenient for black men all the time.”
