Edward James of the Betha Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi was protesting at the federal courthouse where U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves struck down Mississippis gay marriage ban last month. He dressed his horse, Charlotte, in a makeshift wedding gown and held a sign asking, Do you take this horse to be your lawfully wedded spouse to be your lawfully wedded spouse to have and to hold? This might even be possible if the band [sic] on same-sex marriage is lifted.
As Charlotte grazed, James told the Clarion-Ledger that he hoped his protest would make Judge Reeves reconsider his ruling and that Mississippi will stay a state that will only recognize marriage between a man and a woman.
