News BREAK: POGO Finds Smoking Gun of Corruption in Governor Siegelman's Case!

Last edited Mon Dec 15, 2014, 05:10 PM - Edit history (5)

For those of you who don't know, Monday is a hearing for Governor Siegelman by a Georgia visiting federal justice. The reason a GA Judge is doing so, is because all other Alabama Judge's recused themselves and the original lord of the case (Judge Mark Fuller) has been forced off the bench (due to a wife beat in public). Somehow - the PRoject on Government Oversight ("POGO&quot managed to unearth another Smoking Gun. Whereas the prosecutors in the case were giving data updates to Governor Siegelman's opponent (Governor Riley). As revealed in POGO's article;

"Justice Department Downplays Evidence of Politics in Probe of Governor"

[br] That states;

New evidence related to one of the most controversial public corruption cases in recent years, the 2006 conviction of Alabama’s former Democratic Governor, Donald E. Siegelman, indicates that Department of Justice prosecutors, who are supposed to ignore politics, were thinking and acting in partisan terms when they probed the governor’s administration.

The same evidence illustrates a systemic problem at the Justice Department: When the Department investigates allegations of misconduct by its own prosecutors, it typically avoids transparency or public accountability. As a result, the public can be left with a question: Is the Justice Department whitewashing prosecutorial abuse?

[br][hr][br]

Justice Department States the Fact - and then lets it slide

[br]

As par for the course, the DOJ gives its own a pass, after admitting there were serious errors in judgments.
[br]
According to the document, an internal affairs unit at the Justice Department reviewed the email in the course of investigating whether various Department actions against Siegelman were “politically motivated.” The internal affairs unit, known as the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR), determined that the prosecutor “should not have sent the e-mail. . .and that the fact he did so raised serious questions about his judgment, especially given his supervisory authority over public corruption cases.”

[br][hr][br]

Legal Schnauzer's Roger Shuler asks the questions that beg.

In his follow up that points to POGO, Roger Shuler's blog story titled

"Why did a federal prosecutor contact Rob Riley during the investigation of former Governor Don Siegelman"

Engaging in his usual, much more blunt/to the point candor, Roger Shuler states;

Why would a prosecutor contact the campaign manager for Siegelman's primary political opponent--if, in fact, politics were not involved? Why would Rob Riley's correspondent refer to himself as a "conservative prosecutor"?

[br][hr][br]

This one item alone, the contacting of a political opponent to Siegelman - warrants a release from prison.

Hopefully - justice can start on the right path - come Monday's hearing.

and Judge Land will make his decision known in 5 days.[br][hr][br]

I know that both AL senators and others have told him to resign, but I haven't seen yet that he has. The first paragraph says he's been forced off the bench, but that may be a temporary condition while he's in rehab.

done what they did for Republican Sen. Ted Stevens, they should have done that re Siegelman where much more corruption has been revealed, and THEN they should have gone after Karl Rove and his minions who were behind this political prosecution.

He was a great Democrat. Even Republicans across the country signed a petition saying that this was one of the worst cases they have seen regarding someone who never should have been charged at all and asking for the verdict to be overturned.

But his own party has failed and betrayed him sadly.

for political prosecutions is a republican art. Remember also how republicans screamed and squealed during the Scooter Libby/Valerie Plame outing investigation. Their protestations that it was a politically motivated prosecution? Can you say projection? If you want a good look at the depravity of the NJ US Attorney's office under Christie and the political nature of their operations see Lou Manzo's book Ruthless Ambition. Check it out here: http://www.ruthlessambitionthebook.com/

The late U.S. Senator from NJ, Frank Lautenberg, once accused individuals of this same USAO of aiding and abetting Christie by “trying to bring political campaign objectives into the planning of law enforcement actions” and “conducting a political campaign within the U.S. Attorney’s Office.” Lautenberg’s words will continue to haunt the conscience of anyone in power with the influence to sever this cancer from an office intended to dispense justice blindly, but who, instead, have thus far decided to ignore their responsibility to take action.
