Working Together, We Can Defeat the Marriage Amendment

Among the issues we'll be voting on in November this year is an constitutional amendment designed to ban same-sex marriage in Minnesota. Resolutions by the DFL very correctly oppose this amendment, but it will be on the ballot in November. If it passes, it will make it much more difficult to establish marriage equality for all Minnesotans in the future.

Please vote NO on this amendment in November, and encourage everyone you know to do the same. LGBT Minnesotans deserve the right to marry the person they love as much as anyone else in Minnesota. This November, we will take back our state legislature from the Republicans who have obstructed good, progressive legislation since 2010 and who got this amendment placed on the ballot.

Your NO vote will make it possible for the new DFL majority that is elected in 2012 to enact marriage equality for all Minnesotans. It's one more reason for all DFLers to go to the polls in November and cast their votes to restore legislative majorities in our state legislature.

If you can post something similar to this to your blog or other website that is Minnesota-related, or if you have a similar measure coming before the voters in your own state, it might help in the fight to move marriage equality forward. Inaction is not an option in 2012. Every Democratic voter needs to get to the polls in November to make a statement that we are not going to put up with Republican obstructionism any longer in the US.

Generally the Constitution is used to give people rights, it is very revealing that both Constitutional amendments that are being pushed by "the party of small government" expand the power of government and take away people's rights.

It's surprising how much traffic this small web site gets. I think it's because it's the only DFL Precinct-level site I know of in Minnesota, and comes in high in the results for a number of Google searches.

the 2012 elections. From issues to candidates, getting an early start is going to be crucial. Every effort, whether small or large, will work to GOTV for Democratic voters, and that's going to be the most important effort we can make toward re-establishing Democratic control in Congress and in state legislators. 2010 was a setback, and all of our efforts should be going toward the election in November. We can win this election, and I don't just mean reelecting Obama. There's so much to do and less time than we think.

Help Defeat the Voter ID Amendment
We're facing another challenge in November, created by the Republican-controlled state legislature. The proposed Constitutional Amendment requiring photo ID at the polling place is aimed at keeping people from voting. That is its only function. Based on sample legislation provided by ALEC, this amendment will have just one result if it passes: It will keep poor, elderly, and student voters from exercising their right to vote. Proponents of this amendment are saying that it is about preventing election fraud. They are wrong.

We don't have election fraud in Minnesota. We're recognized nationally for our clean, well-run elections. Don't listen to Republicans who say that this amendment is to prevent election fraud. That is not what it is about. It's about disenfranchising voters the Republicans think will vote for Democrats, and that is its only purpose. In November, vote NO on this amendment, and tell everyone you know to vote NO. We must maintain the right of every citizen of Minnesota to vote. To do otherwise would be to roll back the clock of history to a time when only some had the right to vote. Please vote NO on this amendment.

If such a thing is up for a vote in your state, the time to start fighting to keep it from happening is now, not later.
