The US may impose economic sanctions on Venezuela. This is why:

"The global power of the financial centers is so great, that they can afford not to worry about the political tendency of those who hold power in a nation, if the economic program (in other words, the role that nation has in the global economic megaprogram) remains unaltered. The financial disciplines impose themselves upon the different colors of the world political spectrum in regards to the government of any nation. "We tortured some folks. We did some things that were contrary to our values. I understand why it happened. I think it's important when we look back to recall how afraid people were after the Twin Towers fell, and the Pentagon had been hit, and a plane in Pennsylvania had fallen and people did not know whether more attacks were imminent and there was enormous pressure on our law enforcement and our national security teams to try to deal with this...it’s important for us not to feel too sanctimonious in retrospect about the tough job those folks had,”

~ US President Barack Obama

Venezuelans march against United States sanctions

The sanctions against Venezuelan officials were approved last week.

The bill was passed by the House of Representatives last week after being approved by the Senate. It is now likely to be signed into law by President Barack Obama.

'Arrogant imperialist Yankees'

Addressing thousands of his supporters in Caracas, Mr Maduro denounced the American government as "arrogant imperialist Yankees".

He said Venezuela and other countries should set up "a committee of legal experts to investigate all the human rights violations and crimes against humanity carried out by the United States, which have bombed Libya, Iraq and Syria".
