And also there are a number of prominent conservative catholics who are spokes people for them.

That said, I suspect that most will take the Rubio line of chastising the Pope - and people who aren't Catholic who want to attack the Pope, will simply quote "the Catholic Bill O'Rielly" or "the Catholic Rick Santorum" (less clumsily than that, I hope).

Become too insulting, which I have no doubt some of the more fundamentalist republicans will, that could cause a backlash among republicans who are Catholic. I remember when JFK ran for president there was a fair amount if that
