NYC Sex Workers Call On Police To Stop Confiscating Condoms

http://www.laborradio.org/Channels/Story.aspx?ID=1690569

Sex workers in New York City are requesting that the police stop confiscating condoms as evidence. The Sex Workers Project referenced a study that shows the confiscation of condoms can have a negative impact on efforts to stop the spread of disease. In 1996, San Francisco passed resolution that required police to take photos instead of confiscating condoms. An alleged sex worker having a condom in his or her possession can be used in court as evidence of prostitution. Having condoms on hand at a strip club can often be used to allege the performers are engaging in illegal activities.

Yet another backhanded assault upon the weakest members of society from those empowered by the 1% to look out for their interests.

In my possession, I intend to write a note to hand to a teller because I'm going to rob a bank. Hmmm..,. Good logic... Or typical cop logic.

Plenty of people carry condoms; it's not proof of anything.

But having a heck of a lot of them could be proof that one expects an awful lot of sex.

I may have been far too optimistic back when I was younger, but I didn't carry around a case of condoms.

It may come as a shock to some but the illegal sex-acts in question could be performed with or without said condoms.

Main difference between the spread of disease/unwanted pregnancy.
