Kaboom!!! Jon Huntsman Slams the Whole “Communist” GOP

“Jon Huntsman "took a battle axe to his own party, comparing it to China's Communist Party and criticizing it's standard bearer in a wide-ranging interview," BuzzFeed reports.

He also "jokingly blamed his failed candidacy in part on his wife, Mary Kaye, who told him she'd leave him if he abandoned his principles."

Said Huntsman: "She said if you pandered, if you sign any of those damn pledges, I'll leave you. So I had to say I believe in science -- and people on stage look at you quizzically as though you're was an oddball."

Huntsman added that Ronald Reagan would "likely not" be able to win the GOP nomination in this environment.”

would have but, Ike and Lincoln are rolling over in their graves seeing the modern version of their party. I like Jon pretty well even if I do disagree with a lot of his policies. Next thing you know the Repuke party is going to start calling Huntsman a RINO. Oh, well I'm glad at least someone in that party is telling it like it is about the GOP.

Not every Republican is the devil. Huntsman has taken a lot of heat because he joined Obama's administration. His comment about not pandering to get a nomination was good.

His entire point was that he wouldn't change his positions just to fit a party line. Why on earth would he change his positions to fit in with Democrats? The Democratic Party has been screwed enough and watered-down by having so many Republicans join it, I'm glad that there are some with enough conviction to stand their ground.

You can take the few remaining non-crazy Republicans with you, and we'll throw in all the Blue Dogs who would have been Republicans back in the 80s. You can form a new, sane conservative party and just leave the Republican party to the flat-earthers and witch-hunters.

He was the only one in the running that any sane person could have voted for.

The title puts words in his mouth, which is bad journalism - not that I would call kos journalists in any case, but still. The original huffpo article is almost as bad as this, though.

China's party might have communist in the name, but they aren't communist. The only way that they even still hold claim on it is with the idea that they build for future communism... by being capitalist now. Though they have an enormous public sector, it isn't communism or what some would call socialism, and it hasn't been so for decades now.

Also not sure why you think communists march in lockstep to propaganda and talking points. You might be confusing communism with the handful of authoritarian regimes that claimed to be communist. Or the unthinking support by many leftists of the Soviet Union, which was disgusting. Or the CPUSA, which is an equally crappy organization. Ah well, the anticapitalist left is in a sorry state these days, plenty of bad examples to choose from.
