With High Premarital Sex And Abortions Rates, Evangelicals Say It's Time To Talk About Sex

(RNS) The statistics, some evangelicals say, can no longer be ignored.

Eighty percent of young evangelicals have engaged in premarital sex, according to a new video from the National Association of Evangelicals. and almost a third of evangelicals' unplanned pregnancies end in abortion.

It's time to speak honestly about sex because abstinence campaigns and anti-abortion crusades often aren't resonating in their own pews, evangelical leaders say.

Oh my. Aren't they the ones shutting down Planned Parenthood and bombing abortion centers? Does this mean their kids have normal hormones?

We'll see, but I hope so.

Sex education shouldn't even be an issue these days.

If they really want to get serious about reversing their damaging policies then we'll talk.

Younger evangelicals are obviously not as paralyzed by fear of sex. They're having sex (and abortions) no matter what their elders tell them. Just as younger Catholics are using contraception no matter what the church says.

Seems like a positive development to me.

Are they admitting they were wrong about something? Are they letting facts trump beliefs?

This must be very scary for them.

of the horrors of sex, complete with diseased genitalia, etc. Start showing them to the children in kindergarten and repeat weekly until they graduate from high school.

That ought to do it, I think. Is this smilie needed?

> Eighty percent of young evangelicals have engaged in premarital sex,

As always for conservatives, it's "Do as I say, not as I do". If these insane nutjobs really believed in all their religious mumbo-jumbo, it boggles the mind how they can lie so often.

Oh wait, according to them, you can lie, cheat, steal, murder, etc, etc all you want. Just gotta talk to the voices in your head about how sorry you are, and you get another "I can still go to heaven" card.
