Remember that show?
It was canceled because the Right Wing wants America to believe the rich are hurting too along with everyone else.
Their message is that your boss would like to give you a raise but can't AFFORD to give you a raise. Got it? It's all the fault of those overpaid politicians in Washington STEALING all of your boss's money by over-taxing and over-regulating everyone.
This is why your crazy uncle keeps sending you stuff about politicians and their salaries.
They can't keep that myth alive and then show you things like this:
This mega-mansion was built by the founder of Hot Pockets.

(1,348 posts)Nobody gave a shit about some dumb syndicated puff piece of a TV show then and they don't now. Hardly a conspiracy.

(1,348 posts)The show was canceled because it was on the air for 11 years and had become less popular, like many TV shows do.
I'm just not seeing the connection between its cancellAtion, after 11 years, as some sort of conspiracy to dupe the public into believing the rich are suffering.

There's no one there who waits for me, but you won't hear me moan
My ex-wives all sue me, and with half my kids in jail
I'll still come out laughing, coz me? I never fail, loser!

Jed Clampett, in my view, was responsible as anyone for the Watts riots. Sure, you can talk
Mr. Drysdale all you want, but Clampett sure did seem smug to me and millions of others.
I guess you stopped watching TV in 1995 or so (oh wait - you're probably one of those who
claims they've never watched TV, right?)
MTV Cribs.
Real Housewives of _____.
The Kardashians.
Millionaire Matchmaker.
All far more recent than what you cited, all intimately concerned with wealth and its display.
Why aren't those pushing people over the edge?

(7,208 posts)The focus was more on the house with all the space and amenities it provided, and the numerous Ferraris and Lamborghinis the owner possessed. The actual owners of the house were never shown, only their emissaries.
At least to me, a hidden subtext was "You'll never ever be one of these people but we'll give you a quick peek on Television as you are not worthy of their presence".
