in fact I personally never met anyone who was dissatisfied with his circumcision or talked about it. Pretty much all of the women in my life were rather fond of my circumcision as well. Circumcision has been very very good to ME.
Just saying...since we have Orthodox "misccrean"t threads, and circumcision threads, I thought I'd post one of my own!

Circumcised at birth, wasn't asked. Since I never had a prepuce, can't say I miss it.
The many, many lovers I've had never complained but I suppose some may have been secretly disappointed. Only remember a scant few that didn't come back for more, so I guess it all worked out.

(108,959 posts)Now that the WHO and other medical organizations are saying that there is a medical benefit even for children (fewer urinary tract infections leading to permanent kidney damage), and that there is a long term benefit because circumcision is so much simpler in babies, it is a reasonable decision for parents to make.
Orsino
(37,428 posts)Most of us have no memory of not being circumcised, and therefore no goddamned idea of what it is we've lost (beyond the obvious). If anyone could talk about his adult circumcision, and do it free of religious dogma, I would pay respectful attention.
I have heard of statistically-significant health benefits to circumsion, but that's not what I'm curious about.
customerserviceguy
(25,183 posts)Had mine done when I was eighteen, it was a medical necessity. Figuring that my sons might just have inherited my condition, I had them snipped before they could really process what hit them.
I'm an atheist, and have no religious reasons for having done this with myself and my sons. It's way easier to keep clean (I remembering my dear old Dad having to have that talk with me about how to keep clean down there, as he was uncut himself), and after getting over the effects of the initial scar tissue, it's been just fine.

(18,186 posts)I won't talk about my five sons' peni, as they are grown men and are due privacy, but I never thought I'd hear someone say something so stupid as "people won't circumcise their kids over fear of being thought a Jew."
The men I've been with have all been cut, and only one was Jewish.
I never heard a single kid in school or any time as I got older claim uncut was an anti-Semitic statement by parents. And that was in the Deep South.
Never, ever heard that because most males are circumcised these days, religious parents or no.
I suspect the poster is harkening back to an earlier time when circumcision was not so widely performed.
Crunchy Frog
(26,578 posts)it was because it hadn't yet become widely ingrained in the culture, not because people were choosing to be anti-semites by not doing it.
I believe the poster was perhaps accusing John Lennon's mother of being an anti-semite, but it was never as widespread a cultural phenomenon in England as it became in the US, and not doing it was pretty common, especially among that social class, and during the 2nd WW, when medical resources were needed elsewhere. The practice was largely abandoned in England not long after.
I very much doubt that a personal insult to PCIntern and all of his people ever entered the mind of Julia Lennon.
PCIntern
(25,490 posts)Do you have a vision problem or a processing problem?
Anti-circumcision is not equated with being anti-Semitic. However, there ARE individuals who choose NOT to for the reasons which I elucidated.
But then, one would have to think rather than just act before one posts, wouldn't one?

(21,786 posts)the issue with the other post you're responding to isn't circumcision but unsanitary practices that resulted in an infant getting herpes. I really hope you're not defending that just because it happens to involve Orthodox Jews. I can only wonder how you'd react if the story involved traditional circumcision practices of Muslims; I suspect rather differently. And you of all people should have some appreciation of the importance of sanitary practices; if you don't you probably aren't fit to do your job.

Honestly, some of the uncut little old men we had to take care of could be smelled all the way down the hall. They'd likely taken care of themselves when younger but found it too difficult to do properly as they aged. Sometimes it was infected and really raw under there, making care painful.
Yes, we know that non Jews did it for all the wrong reasons at first, but new data are emerging about lower transmission rates for a lot of diseases, especially HIV, so there are some right reasons to do it.
Parents are the ones who need to be presented with both sides of the argument so they can make the best decision for their sons. Everybody else needs to butt out.

(21,786 posts)Would you have a problem sitting next to a woman on a plane? If you had a son, would you want the blood sucked off the tip of his freshly circumcised penis despite it being grossly unsanitary and a vector for serious infection? If not, then it's not about you...nor is comment on these issues "anti-Semitic"; it's "anti-fundamentalist", which is something completely different. (And as an aside? It's very fucked up for a supposed "progressive" to defend the actions of religious fundamentalists out of misguided ethnic loyalty.)
Behind the Aegis
(53,921 posts)But, don't presume to tell me what this is or isn't about. In your short-sightedness, it is NOT about "ethnic loyalty" (or playing the anti-Semitism card), it is about how, why, and the way certain topics are discussed. Anti-Semitism is NOT limited to calling a Jew a "kike."
Spider Jerusalem
(21,786 posts)The issue for most people commenting? Is the fundamentalism and anti-modernity and misogyny and general fucked-upness. Which would be exactly the same if it were fundamentalist Muslims and not ultra-Orthodox Jews. Crying "anti-Semitism" where it doesn't actually exist is not very helpful.
Manifestor_of_Light
(21,046 posts)had it done as an adult, and that he felt "castrated". Considering how much action he got, that's probably a worthwhile observation.
As a grown female, I am against it unless medically necessary as it makes intercourse far easier and more enjoyable (while we're in a TMI thread) but I am not going to say something negative to the vast numbers of American men who were cut when they were babies and therefore don't know what they are missing--a few thousand nerve endings that would otherwise have given them pleasure. Not saying anything to a guy who can't do anything about it, and whose parents violated his bodily integrity by cutting off a useful part of the body, is just being diplomatic.

(51,076 posts)and I still remember when they cut me. You see I was a poor kid in a poor part of the country, northeast ok. Born at home without a birth certificate and without being circumcised. The fellow who made a trip through our neck of the woods cutting us unclean kids with the foreskin showed up when I was 4. My brother who is next up from me was 8 so they let him slide, said he was too old and would probably remember this but they figured that me at 4 I wouldn't remember it but I got news for them I do. About the time I went into the service I gave up on ever finding the bastard who took the knife to my part. I still remember what he looked like to this day.
