Heard Dr. Cornel West speak today

Dr. Cornel West and Tavis Smiley spoke at Queen Ann United Methodist in Seattle, Washington this afternoon. What an incredible person. While I really liked Tavis Smiley's presentation. I loved Dr. West's talk. His main point was about how we have so many mean spirited folks in the political discussion on the right and how we need to have a serious discussion about poverty in this country. I bought their book titled: "The Rich and the Rest of Us"

wonder "How did this country get so mean spirited?" Did anyone hear Ed tonight, and the excerpt from Hannity on how people aren't really hungry? I mean it is just mean spirited. Geez, how did that come about? I do not get it.

The women from a group that works with hunger (sorry, forgot the name of the group; I was in the kitchen) talked about how hunger used to be a non-partisan issue. But the repubs actually got rid of the word 'hunger' officially in the USDA. It is now "low food security". I guess that sounds more palatable to the rabid right.

Ugh. I just don't recognize this country any more. Seems like NOBODY has anyone's back.
