Let them eat rice and beans (Hannity)

Everyman Sean Hannity was absolutely flabbergasted on his radio show yesterday when a caller dared to suggest that Mitt Romney's wealth made him unrelatable. "When was the last time he went to bed, or woke up, hungry?" the communist asked. Choosing to take the comment very literally, Hannity argued that poverty and hunger are not linked; even the poorest Americans, he argued, have freezers, televisions, and DVDs. "They just don't have the best and the latest," he said. "I never went to bed hungry in my life, ever," he added unsurprisingly. Then Hannity recommended a recipe:

I don't believe people are going to bed hungry. ... For, instance I have friends of mine who eat rice and beans all the time. Beans protein, rice. Inexpensive. You can make a big pot of this for a week for negligible amounts of money and you can feed your whole family.

Look, you should have vegetables and fruit in there as well, but if you need to survive you can survive off it. It's not ideal but you could get some cheap meat and throw in there as well for protein. There are ways to live really, really cheaply.

Hannity makes about $10 million per year — he should invite his "friends" over for dinner more often.

I live on towards the end of the month before payday. Plus some spices.....gets boring, but then I look forward to payday. Bags of tea help too. Going hungry is not fun. Went 3 days without food once, never again!

That's what I have (mixed in with some salsa and cheese) two or three times a week to keep the food bill down. Plus half-price specials bought at the supermarket just before closing time.

I think I've gone for a couple of days without food before, when I was down to my last $10 far from home. It was an awful time.

I think I might have 2 or 3 kinds (natto, black beans, and eda mame). I even have the sriracha sauce, which has been sitting in my cupboard for a couple of years looking for a use. I'll have to try this, maybe during the upcoming Golden Week.

so rice & beans together should provide for human protein needs without additional meat being necessary.

That being said, if faced with the two dishes I would pick the one with the added meat.

And when was Hannity ever poor? 30 years ago? Since then, he's been in the same country clubs as Rmoney.

How do they power their appliances? There are people in this country who have no homes. Where do they KEEP their appliances.

There are people in this country with no money, no food stamps, and no idea where their next meal will come from because even beans and rice require money and facilities to cook.

unit these days. when you're renting a place you usually don't OWN the appliances after all. Its the ability to store food that has made possible the consolidation of agriculture into big business. The same big agribusinesses who advertise on shitty "commentary" programming on Fux News.

I seriously doubt Ha-Nutty has any friends who eat beans and rice. If they do its almost certainly "haricots vert" and "risotto".

For the record, I had beans and rice for dinner last night. And I'll be having it for lunch today, as well.

Huck Fannity.

the rice weren't laced with arsenic, the beans (and corn tortilla chips) GMO'd to be Roundup Ready, the bit of cheese on top didn't have a dose of Strontium 90, etc. What the heck does that twit know about what people who are struggling do to get by? But it would be great if he'd drop in to give some healthy eating workshops, since he's so up on it. Course it would also help if inner city folks actually had access to regular grocery stores, instead of having to survive of what's in the mini-market. And maybe it'd help too if the people in those depressed areas were given a little more options in jobs so they could improve their families futures.
