Old Testament' moth invasion should end in 2 weeks

“People are going crazy,” said Potter County Texas AgriLife Extension Agent Brandon Boughen. “It’s kind of comical. They are all worried they are going to defoliate their plants, but they’re just a nuisance.”

*

“Last year, we didn’t have the early moisture we had this year, and nobody noticed them because they didn’t come all at once,” Boughen said. “From spring to late summer they’re around, just not invading people’s homes.”

The mild winter temperatures accelerated their transformation underground from worms to moths.

The Albuquerque (N.M.) Journal reports they are at “levels not seen since 2003.” One woman reported a “hive of moths” outside her front door, according to the newspaper. The Colorado Springs Gazette recently featured a headline that began “Run! Hide!”

it has been interestingly crazy the last couple days. the first morning i go into garage to car i am hearing a buzzing noise. when i look at the garage door (with windows, light source) at least a hundred moths trying to get out. it really has been a trip for everyone. the birds are happy.

last night i had my kindle light on and the rest of room was dark. a moth flies toward my light. hubby throws his body in between and gets that moth. he saved me.....

I have a couple of hanging paper lamps, and they've
been flying around inside of them, which makes an
enormous amount of moth-bumping-into-paper noise.

Kind of a rattattattat. On the porch (also a paper lamp)
last night I counted around 30 moths inside and around the
lamp, and all over the wall behind. They do seem harmless,
just ubiquitously mothy.
